Ellen Crickley - Acorn CBT Counselling, Wexford

Welcome to Acorn CBT Counselling, a private Cognitive Behavioural Therapy practice based in Wexford town.

What is Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT)?

Cognitive Behavioural Therapy is a well-recognised form of counselling that helps people to understand how their thoughts can influence their feelings and their behaviours. Clients learn how to change unhelpful thoughts and behaviours that cause stress and unhappiness to them.

CBT is used to treat a wide range of issues including depression, anxiety, anger, panic attacks, phobias, stress, obsessive compulsive disorder (OCD) and health anxiety (generally known as hypochondria). These issues can all lead to low self-esteem, distress and avoidance.

CBT uses self-help and self-motivation to enable people to overcome their problems and improve their confidence. It helps you make sense of your life and move forward. You can read more about Cognitive Behavioural Therapy on the About CBT page.

About Me

Ellen Crickley, BSoc.Sc., M.Ed, Post Graduate Diploma in Cognitive Therapy from Belfast Cognitive Therapy Centre.

I am a fully qualified counsellor, registered and accredited with the Irish Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy, based in Wexford town.

I trained as a Person Centered Co-counsellor in 1980, which I practiced for many years. In 1987 I trained as an Assertiveness Trainer and delivered training to professionals in the education sector in the U.K.

Since the 1990's I have practiced mindfulness, undertaking several training courses. I have used mindfulness as a tool in working with certain clients who benefitted from compassion focused mindfulness input.

I worked with Barnardos in the U.K. for 10 years, leading a project working with children and their families experiencing emotional and behavioural difficulties.

Between 2005 and 2017, I worked with men experiencing issues with anger in their relationships, co-facilitating a weekly group in Wexford.

If you think that I could help you, please get in contact.
